Use of Blockchain for Employment Records and Verification

Blockchain Technology can be used for record keeping and verification of employment records. As of today, companies pay huge sum for verification of employment history for new recruits, and live with inefficiencies and delays occurring in the process. Distributed solution which can be trusted and is secure, is an apt solution for record keeping and validation of employment records.

MNCs and medium sized enterprises can form a consortium for such record keeping. Each of these organizations already pay huge sum of money for employment verification. Instead, they can come together, invest on few resources, build a Blockchain solution to record employee movement as they switch through various organizations in their career. This is similar to what banking consortium are doing to build distributed financial solutions using Blockchain.

Organizations can also think of dedicating few servers and participate in the same Blockchain network they build, for the storage and processing needed for record keeping and execution of smart contracts. These servers can be dedicated from their data centers or via cloud vendors. This way, instead of paying hefty to third party vendors for employee verification, they dedicate a small portion of the already existing cost to manage the Blockchain network they build and participate in. Therefore, they themselves are the gatekeepers of the solution, ensuring security, and also providing the required processing power.

Every time an employee joins an organization, an entry is made into Blockchain and same is done when the employee exits. There have to be checks and balances via smart contracts to ensure organizations do not make error entries. Role of candidates will be critical in this solution as they would authorize employers to access records directly and also in many other scenarios.

Such a solution transcends country limits, and can truly become a global, decentralized and distributed record keeping of employment history.

Companies like https://appii.io/ solve part of the problems (CV verification) via Blockchain, but they would still be owning the data, thereby, data being controlled by one entity which is they themselves. What I am proposing is to distribute it and have all organizations across the world participate in the process.

Similar approach can be adopted in Educational domain, which leads to cost saving and brings efficiency to the process of educational verification, within the country institutes, and also in cross country Educational Credential Assessments.
